Welcome to JiaYou! WUSHU.com... your online access to wushu

in the greater metropolitan area of Atlanta,GA.

My name is David Adams, founder and instructor (lao shi) of JiaYou! WUSHU and I'll be your guide as you unlock your true potential and discover the same inner calm and infinite enjoyment that wushu has shown me.

This is the beginning of what will hopefully become a nexus point

for wushu lovers in ATL and beyond... as once again East meets West in

the deep, down 'Dirty South'...

... jia you !

So just what is 'jia you' and how the heck are you even supposed to say it anyway?
I'm sure you have many questions if this is the first time you've encountered wushu, but allow me to first express my deep gratitude and thanks to Sigung Rodney Alo, my Kajukenbo instructor who first introduced me to standardized wushu,
and most especially my love and appreciation to Siu-Fong Evans
and the Jing Institute of Chinese Martial Arts and Culture who truly polished
the 'diamond in the rough' that I was and who proudly sponsor this endeavor to expand and promote wushu in this region of the country. Thank you all so very, very much ... to all of my teachers and students alike because I learned a LOT from ALL OF YOU...
... hen xiexie !

Okay... now, on to 'jia you' (roughly pronounced "jyah yo"),
which is a popular chinese expression that literally means 'add fuel' or 'put more oil on the fire'. If you happened to catch the 2008 Olympics then you no doubt heard thousands of Chinese fans shouting "Jia You!" at the top of their lungs to cheer on the Chinese atheletes. It's an expression that gives strength and encouragement to your favorite team or contender ... just like screaming "DE-FENSE!" at a Falcons football game or yelling the 'tomahawk/Indian' chant at a Braves baseball game.
You get the idea...

And if you've ever been to a wushu tournament then you're very familiar with the phrase 'jia you!' because it's yelled constantly to give support to martial artists being judged on the testing floor... each one striving to express their form with all the speed, accuracy, power and passion they can summon.
So when I began thinking of a theme or name to start a new wushu school here in Atlanta, let me tell you, I really didn't have to think very long, because for me "Jia You!" pretty much sums up everything I love about wushu.

This web page is a work in progress, much like any true martial artist. There is always more helpful info that can and will be added as time allows. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about wushu that aren't answered here or by any of the link resources I've included. And please contact me as well if you have additional information that will improve this website for myself and other martial arts enthusiasts.
As for the few additional Mandarin terms sprinkled here and there, 'wushu' literally means "martial art", 'ni hao' is an informal greeting or "hello"
and 'xie xie' is "thank you"...
